South Korea: Black smoke billows over Gimpo after major warehouse fire

Emergency crews battled a major warehouse fire in Gimpo as thick black smoke engulfed the city and nearby businesses were impacted.

Gimpo, South Korea: Footage shot by an eyewitness on Tuesday (June 23) showed a thick column of smoke rising over Gimpo city in South Korea after a fire broke out at a warehouse.

Reuters confirmed the location using file data and visual verification of surrounding buildings, a utility tower, road layout, signage, lamp posts and vegetation matching file imagery. The date of the footage was verified through file data and a statement from authorities.

Gimpo Fire Station said in an emailed statement that the fire broke out at a clothing warehouse in Unyang-dong, Gimpo city, around 2:45 pm local time (17:45 GMT) on Tuesday. It added that 64 vehicles and 165 personnel were deployed, including six helicopters.
